Update: Dog Reunited with Owner
This dog has been successfully reunited with its owner. Officers were able to identify a microchip, which led to contact with the registered owner residing in La Center. The owner reported the dog was home when they left for work the previous day and was unaware how it ended up in Kalama. The owner was relieved to learn the dog had been safely located. This incident serves as a good reminder of the importance of microchipping pets, as it allows for quick and successful reunification when they become lost.
Found Dog
A friendly female dog was found wandering near Elm Street and Fourth Street and has been turned in to the Kalama Police Department for safekeeping
If you recognize her or know who her owner might be, please contact the Kalama Police Department or stop by the PD to reunite her with her family.
Thank you for helping us get her home safely!

Public Safety Update - Kalama High School
Earlier today, the Kalama Police Department responded to a report of a potential threat at Kalama High School. Officers immediately coordinated with school staff to ensure the safety of all students and faculty.
After a thorough investigation, officers determined there was no credible threat to the school or the community. The situation has been resolved, and the campus is safe.
We want to thank Kalama School District staff for their quick action and cooperation, as well as the students and parents for their understanding during this incident.
This remains an active investigation, and no additional information will be released at this time.
Kalama Police Department

The Kalama Police Department would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who attended and supported this year's Shop with a Cop dinner. Thanks to the generosity of our community, over $6K was raised, from this dinner alone, which will allow us to provide even more children a holiday shopping experience this December.
Shop with a cop is one of our most meaningful outreach programs. It helps strengthen the bond between officers and the families we serve while ensuring that every child in our community feels the spirit of the holidays.
We are proud to serve in a city where compassion and partnership continue to make a difference. Thank you, Kalama, for your ongoing support.

**The Kalama Police Department is proud to participate in the Shop with a Cop program. This program provides a Christmas gift buying and giving opportunity for under privileged children in the Kalama community. Children from low-income families are selected to receive a $100 shopping trip to buy gifts for themselves and their family members. Police officers from Kalama donate their time to assist these children with their shopping and it is a truly heartwarming experience.

Motorists are reminded that there is no parking or stopping permitted on 8th or Date Street. Thank you in advance for your patience and courtesy! Refer to the link and information below as a reminder of traffic patterns/flow at the school(s).

As the new school year approaches, let’s ensure our students stay safe by following these essential safety tips:
Pedestrian Safety
• Crosswalks: Always use designated crosswalks and obey crossing guards.
• Visibility: Wear bright clothing and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
• Sidewalks: Walk on sidewalks where available; if not, walk facing traffic.
Bicycle Safety
• Helmets: Always wear a properly fitted helmet.
• Bike Lanes: Use bike lanes when available, and follow traffic signals.
• Visibility: Equip your bike with lights and reflective gear, especially in low-light conditions.
School Bus Safety
• Bus Stops: Arrive early at the bus stop and wait in a safe location away from the road.
• Boarding/Exiting: Wait for the bus to stop completely before getting on or off, and cross the street in front of the bus only when the driver signals it’s safe.
• Behavior: Stay seated, keep noise to a minimum, and follow the driver’s instructions.
Distracted Driving
• Focus: Keep your eyes on the road and avoid distractions such as texting or eating.
• Speed: Slow down in school zones and be prepared for sudden stops.
• Awareness: Watch for children walking, biking, or getting on and off school buses.
Let’s all do our part to create a safe environment for our students as they head back to school. Stay alert, stay safe!
